Title: Ghost Image & RIS (Sysprep)
Post by LoTGoD on Feb 21st, 2003 at 11:08am
Does anyone have any working expierience using Ghost and Microsoft Sysprep, along with Remote Installation Services (RIS).  I'm tring to make a ghost image that can be stored on a RIS machine to allow the new PC client to boot-to-LAN and install a fresh copy of XP while allowing the remote to input license, PC name, and organization info.  Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
LoTGoD

If/when you do this, I'm sure you'll learn some valuable info. I'd be glad to post your findings as a addendum to the Ghost guide.

There's nothing like first-hand experience from a real person.

Maybe you want to jot down some notes as you go.

Seems like my specific system that I'm trying to set up on is having strage issues with the onboad nic.  I'll have to see if Symantec has any workarounds for this problem.  It just doesn't seem to like my Intel nic for some reason.

I'd be more than happy to let you know the details of how we get it to work.  As soon as it is up and running I'll give you the specs.

Did you try to send him an email? If so, it seems to have bounced:

The following message to <lotgod@neo.rr.com> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias: lotgod@neo.rr.com'

There is a little apostrophe at the end of the 2nd addy. That might be a problem.

He has a custom logo that is still active.

Maight be able to find him here:

Sorry fellas...been on vacation in the OBX since last week.  Rad...my email in my profile points to my work address...does that not work either?  If not...can you change it to XXX@comcast.net?

In reply to the question at hand...yes...I have gotten it to work, and we use it everyday at work.  The issue that I am hiving at this point is that we can only Ghost one machine at a time.  Our switches have multicast aggregation turned on so I know why it won't work there...but if we put the ghostcast server and standalone machines on a simple switched network, it still will not work.  Feel free to email me questions.

There you are!

We were looking for you.

I changed your registered email addy to the one you specified. Check your profile to verify.

Then edit your post to remove it so spam-bots doesn't harvest it.

I noticed you were one of the original member who registered. You're member #122 of almost a 1,000 now.

Not sure why, but I am getting bounced mail from this addy (still):

lotgod@neo.rr.com

Is that familiar to you?

Yeah...that addy was an old one that I had at a previous job.  I killed it when I quit there so no one would try to contact me on it.  Was that my signup email???  Been so long since I used it that I almost forgot about it  ;)

I see your spying on me :)
