Title: Using Snapshot or Ghost
Post by ray2 on May 21st, 2005 at 10:48pm
Pardon my ignorance but after reading about Snapshot in one of the threads in this forum, downloading it and running a backup, the question to ask is:-
Is there any difference between using either Ghost or Snapshot?

Is one superior to the other?

I also noticed that Snapshot is not particular wherther GoBack is running or not, whereas Ghost 2003 requires that I disable GoBack before it proceeds.

Just a further note re GoBack and Snapshot. No wonder Snapshot isn't fussy about GoBack, it just wipes off all the history in GoBack without warniing prior to doing a backup, as I just discovered. Aghh!

Actually I was trying to find out whether there is any advantage of using one over the other, as they both backup of the whole disk including the OS.

I have never used Drive Snapshot, but I personally would be hesitant to rely upon a tool produced by "Tom Ehlert - Software & Consulting."  My comment is not a reflection on the quality of the product produced by Tom & Company, but rather that such a small firm is unlikely to continuously improve (or patch) the product over time.

If we were talking about some minor utility category, I would be less concerned.  However, when the subject is backup, I would advise the use of a well-known and respected alternative tool.

Now *there's* something Mr. Pleo & myself can agree on.  :)
