Title: Can you fix " Restore original disk signature " omission? Post by Aquabat on Apr 23rd, 2008 at 10:53am
Work in a building with mostly workgroups and a few Server 2003 domains. I followed our local Ghost 9 restore proceedure which states uncheck "Restore original disk signature" . I restored 20 Dell computers this way. This is fine for a workgroup, but presents problems with our domains. Is there a way to fix this problem? Will I have to build 20 machines from scratch?

Just to clarify - The restore point is of one computer that I loaded and configured with new software. I want to use that image to populate to the whole domain. After I realized the importance of checking "Restore original disk signature" those machines joined the domain without problem. (After changing IP address and computer name, of course)
The original 20 still can't join. |

Hi Aquabat,
Greetings!!! May this helps you: Restore original disk signature Restores the original, physical disk signature of the hard drive. Disk signatures are included in Windows Server 2003,Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition (SP3 and later). Disk signatures are required to use the hard drive. Select this option if either of the following situations are true: Your computer's drive letters are atypical (for example, assigned letters other than C, D, E, and so forth). You are restoring a recovery point to a blank hard drive. For More info: Link : http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/powerquest.nsf/docid/2004072822094462 |
