Title: Ghost 12 and General request please.
Post by tallin on Apr 23rd, 2008 at 7:20pm
Recently my Ghost 10 Live Update would not update so I contacted Symantec through Add and Remove Support link obtaining good service and ultimate success although not with Ghost 10.

Briefly, Symantec Support from Chenai used Logmein to attempt a fix for Ghost 10 update, they could not enable Live Update either, so gave me Ghost 12 free of charge in replacement.  They uninstalled Ghost 10, and installed and setup Ghost 12 in no time at all, all free of charge for which I was most grateful.

My question is:

When I Analise using Windows XP.SP/ > System tools > Defragmenter, I am told to defrag my E:/Drive (Internal Removable Backup Hard Drive)  Could I have an opinion on this please as no where on Symantec can I find a direction re defragging an image Hard Drive.

Many thanks

I'm impressed.

I never defrag images. Seems to me you have a greater chance to moving something that causes Ghost not to be able to use the image. Defragging would just speed up the image disk access retrieval. Little potential gain for a much bigger risk, as I see it.

Thanks for your opinion, thought as much.

Yes, I was impressed also with Symantec's 'gift' as mostly when those things happen they do not want to know about it.

I wonder why they do not advise on their Ghost downloads some information/advice regarding defragging image Hard Drives.  Would help the less informed like me.

Many thanks again for your post.
