Title: Error while using Norton Ghost v14 to copy HD
Post by Autocrat9 on May 6th, 2008 at 10:49am
I checked the box "ignore bad sectors"? but while trying to copy my existing Master C Drive to a new larger drive. I keep getting an error about midway through the copy, that my source drive has errors and is about to fail. Well I know this, thats why I'm trying to copy it to a new drive. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. These are SATA drives, and I'm running Windows XP if that matters.

Have you opened command prompt, and run

chkdsk c: /r

The /r switch causes chkdsk to try to read all sectors and flag any bad ones.  Then try Ghost 14 again.

Note, if you have a known failing drive, first at least try and manually copy off any/all critical folders.  You want to rescue as much as possible just in case more activity from chkdsk or other functions causes it to fail completely.

I haven't tried command prompt chkdsk c: /r But I have created an image file of the entire drive with a program called getdataback, that I have stored on an external HD. The only problem is I haven't been able to figure out how to apply said image file back to a new drive that will boot.

Autocrat9,

See if you can create a recovery point. It may work where a clone is failing.
