Title: Unattended Image Restore using Vista BCD & VBScript
Post by Pleonasm on Jun 24th, 2008 at 1:29pm
The article Hey, Scripting Guy! The Adrenaline Rush describes how a VBScript can query and modify the Windows Vista boot configuration data (BCD) store.  It occurs to me that this technique may be of interest to members of the forum community who wish to implement an unattended image backup restore operation.  In concept, it appears that (A) one could schedule an automatic image backup restore operation (e.g., using Norton Ghost 14 or ShadowProtect Desktop) to a partition, (B) alter the BCD to boot to that partition, and (C) then restart the PC to boot into the operating system on that partition – all done in an unattended manner.

I will defer to those who are interested in this pursuit to investigate and ponder the details.
