Was referred to your page and found some very interesting reading.

I have 2x10g HDrives. One is partitioned 3g & 7g, the 3g is my operating system, which I ghost so I can reload the image if I install a program which I dont want or when my antivirus is updated.  Have found it a blessing. The 7g partition is for my applications.

The second harddrive was full of mp3's.

My problem is that I have ghost 6? - that is not my problem the real problem is that I or the ghoste inadvertently overwrote the ghost image of C drive to E drive instead of C Drive.  Whoops.
Probably a bit peeved as this is the second Nortons program that has given me a problem.

The first was the AntiVirus for w95, found a virus and innoculated it so well, that it destroyed my partitions and my data.
Nortons did send me rescue disc for this but it did not fix the problem, and the data was not retrievable.

Is there a program to retrieve the mp3 that are under the ghost image??? without spending a fortune?

Yer screwed.

I back up all my MP3 to CD .. in case the drive dies.

I do back up my mp3 to CD but this happened in the middle.

So got caught with my ? down and figured there must be a way to retrieve overwritten data.  

But if not that is the way it is.

Data retrival services are notoriously expensive. Unless these are once-in-a-lifetime recordings we're talking about, just re-rip & encode .. that's what I've been doing today .. using EAC, Monkeys & MPC.

How do you back up your mp3s to CD? Do you just copy them, use ghost, or compress them in some way?  This can add up to some serious CDs for a dude like you.  I only have about 6 gigs of music so far but it is growing.

6 gigs is admirable.

i don't compress them more than they already are, and use nero to burn.

each cd gets it's own directory (folder). when i have enough songs to fill a cd, i burn one, including the directories. cd's only cost ~ 25-cents, and take only minutes to burn. it's something you simply need to do .. unless you don't mind ripping & encoding everything all over again.

i have never needed my back-up mp3 cd's, but i can almost guarantee that, if i didn't back them up, the drive would die.

ghost is only necessary for boot partitions.
