Title: Sound Blaster Live hangs my pc Post by CityMan on Apr 11th, 2002 at 9:17pm
Hi
My computer hangs after installation SB Live drivers. Can anyone help or know the website that has the answer. I have been trying for a few days now. Have also tried installing the SB Live card in different PCI slot. Slot 2 default to IRQ12. But in Win98, ps/2 mouse also uses IRQ12, so switch to Win2K. Tried on Win98 and Win2k, both hangs after installating the SB Live drivers. My system config: MSI 6309 mobo revision 5.0 flash bios to the lastest update from VIA website Pentium III 1Ghz cpu 768MB memory (3 x 256MB pc133) ATI Radeon VE 32MB dual display Plextor 16x10x40 IDE cd-writer Sony 48x cdrom 2pc of 40GB harddisk current OS: Windows2000 pro (installed as Standard PC - No ACPI) I'm using SBLive 5.12.01.3520 WDM drivers, run the uppdrv2k.exe but still hangs. Have not install LW3. Checked system info, there is no IRQ conflicts. IRQs in my system: 1 Keyboard 3 COM2 4 COM1 6 Floppy controller 8 CMOS 10 VIA USB controller 11 ATI Radeon VE display 12 SB Live (have deleted the drivers now) 13 Numeric data processor 14 Primary IDE 15 Secondary IDE |

This is not an uncommon problem. I doubt I'll be able to help, but I solved the problem (with Asus CUSL2) by disabling the 2nd USB port in my device manager.
I would suggest that you consult your mobo's manual, and move the card to a slot that does not share an IRQ, but it sounds like you've already done this. For W9x version O/S, I always disable DOS legacy support in the dev mgr. If worse come to worse, you could always try Creative sppt, or sel the card for a Turtle Beach, which many seem to find less problematic. I have the SB Live Value. On another note, I have no experience with Via, but have not heard many good things about their chipsets .. other than they're getting better. I just noticed that you're the 100th registered user .. I should probably give you some kind of door prize. :D |

Hi Radministrator,
Thanks for you kind reply. Will take note about selling the SB Live and buying a Turtle card. Have to find some 'sucker' to buy my SB Live ..... ;D I have already disabled my 3rd & 4th USB port. I also have a optical mouse on 1st USB and Epson Photo 810 printer on 2nd USB. The other PCI slots default to either IRQ10 or IRQ11. I will try to diasble COM2 and see how things work out. But am doubtful that will help. Thanks again for your reply. Peace! Man |
