Title: What a ghs file?
Post by somerset27 on Jun 9th, 2002 at 11:50pm
I created an image using the "-split=650" switch, and I found one "gho" file and one "ghs" file.  What does the "ghs" suffix mean?  When i tried to check the integrity of the "ghs" file, Norton Ghost 2001 refused to do it.
  Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks.  I take it from the explanation that it's just a name that Ghost has supplied to the second of two image files I created by using the "split" command.
I'm still puzzled as to why the program refused to test the integrity of the GHS file.  Should I have changed the suffix from GHS to GHO?
                              Gratefully, Dan

if u image a 10gb file. the first 2gb (1.99gb) gets a *.gho extension. the other four (2gb) files will all get *.ghs extensions. if you check image integrity of the *.gho file, ghost is smart enough to verify all the associated *.ghs files. ghost seees them as part of one file, but merely has to break them up into 2gb parts, cuz ghost works from dos and dos does not support files larger than 2gb. it's the same thing when working with large chunks of video with fat32, if you edit vdo. many editing programs break up the vdo into 2gb files, but the editing app (such as premiere) will still view the all associated files as a single large file.

Thanks for the explanation.  It's good news because it seems to mean that Ghost did its job.
                                Good luck, Dan
