?install new IDE as not 'c' drive?

I have a SCSI 'c' drive already. I want to install a new IDE drive and have it be NOT the c drive.

How? Can someone give me a run through please?

Example of some things I need to know...
-? jumpers on western digital caviar IDE: 'CS' 'master' 'slave'? (never had an IDE)
-? BIOS setup? Adaptec SCSI is on board (supermicro board 1998)
-? SCSI BIOS things?
-? partition and format normally? (it has been a while since I put in a new drive)
-? etc????

i had friends who added an ide drive to an all-scsi system and the scsi drive stayed c:

long as you begin with it that way, and have your o/s on the scsi, i think it will remain so.

try it & see what happens.

i would make *no* primary partitions on the ide drive.

in you mobo bios, tell it to boot from scsi b4 ide, if u have that option.

I'm still ignorant about the jumpers though. Some say no jumper settings on western digital drives for some situations. I'm probably going to contact western digital, for no documentation came with this googlegear supplied drive. (I had to contact IBM once about a scsi ultrastar for the same kind of hardware set up info.)

I wonder what "CS" jumper choice means. (Master and slave is more obvious: SCSI ID equivalent = 0 and 01.)

cs is cable select. i never use that option. it will set master to drive at the *end* of cable & slave to drive at middle position.

set yours to primary master.

Win2K/XP will preserve the drive association. You will only have this problem if you are installing a new OS, in which case your IDE drives will get letters before your SCSI drives.

If you are just adding a drive, just drop it in...you should be assigned the next sequential drive letter automatically.
