Thought maybe someone around these parts might understand the nature of this (to me) peculiar problem.

It is simple to describe the symptom. 100%, EAC will either:
1. Freeze if I connect my dial :-Xup modem while it is in use, or 2. Not start at all if the dial :'(up modem has managed to connect before I run EAC.  

This did not seem to matter when I had a lovely cable hook up. Also, I have only noticed this happening since I repartitioned and moved things around a little.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled,  still bad. I reloaded a ghost image with the working EAC install that I used in the past (application partition - not OS).  Seems to me something in the OS system files is different- huh? Right, I don't know what I am talking about. I would like to tap the freedb tho and seems the internet is a vital part of this action.

Suggestions?, maybe I can download freedb info externally and put it in EAC?

I would appreciate your ideas.
