Title: 'Cyberworld' distinction for El Pescador
Post by El_Pescador on May 28th, 2005 at 6:56pm
Well, friends - and you are all my friends - ::)

Since Kawecki has been conferred with a degree of fame in our "cyberworld" by virtue of devising "Kawecki's trick", I have decided to annoint myself in like manner by claiming that the following procedure shall be known forevermore as "Pesky's trick":

Before performing a Norton Ghost 2003 "disk-to-disk" Advanced Clone, consider the following procedure as a "failsafe" measure to avoid rebooting with two bootable HDDs available - sometimes doing that can cause a real headache:

(1)  Configure your BIOS to set at least one of your onboard bootable drives with removable media as FIRST in the Boot Sequence;

(2)  Where a 3.5-inch floppy is in the Boot Order, stand by to place a formatted but BLANK floppy in the designated drive.  In the case where optical media drives rule the Boot Order, BLANK media will not encumber the boot process so it will be necessary to stand by with a bootable CD or DVD to "do-the-trick".  However, ensure in advance that booting up with said optical media will "derail" HDD booting without any user intervention;

(3)  Execute the Ghost Clone procedure and once underway with indication that data is being transferred, then insert the APPROPRIATE media in the target drive with full anticipation that any HDD reboot attempt following completion will be stymied by the lack of a system disk; and

(4)  When the clone procedure has been completed, turn off your system - and then with the AC power cord physically disconnected - press the PC start button for six seconds before removing the Source HDD from its PRIMARY position and replacing it with the Destination HDD (for you doubters out there, check for any illumination inside your PC case immediately after shutdown).

Rad -

Two questions: (1) can you tell if anyone has voted yet; and (2) can a vote be cast without placing a reply in the thread ?

Well, I am logged as as 'Administrator', so I can "see & know all". And yes, certainly people can vote without replying in the thread, and vice versa.

Received an eMail from a potential voter last night who had heard about the poll but did not have a URL for it.
