Title: Back Grounf type of a query!
Post by Nauman on Dec 13th, 2005 at 9:05am
Hi,

Apologies for posting a back ground type of a query.

Disk keeper pro 9.0, on boot time displays the message that Page file is fragmented BUT needs approx 1500 more clusters for files & attributes.

Am using XP Pro e SP2, system memory is 512 ram.

Online support when contacted first asked me to increase the page file size from default 766-1532 to 900-1600…….but still get that message on boot time.
Now they have asked me to increase it further & set min & max both to 2000 MB?

Any practical comments views shall be highly appreciated.

Regards.

How big is the disk?

How much of that space is currently being used?

Nauman, have you tried deleting the page file (setting "No paging file"), rebooting and recreating a page file?

Hello Mr. Brian,

No I have never tried deleting & recreating the Page file.

Should I experiment with is??

Size of the hard rive is 40GB & only 4 GB is used by XP Pro e SP2.

I experimented by bringing back the page file to the default value i.e. 766-1532 & the number of cluster required decreased from approx 1500 to 1350. The page file initially was set at 900-1600 as advised by DK support.

As mentioned earlier they now are advising me to increase it further to 2000-2000 MB both min & max, which doesn’t sound very logical to me. (Although am just a newbie with poor knowledge about computer related stuff.)

Hoping to hear from you.

Regards!

Nauman, it may fix your problem by creating a clean page file.

In the same place you adjusted the page file size, set "No paging file". Then reboot. Then setup your original page file size and see how it goes.

Hello Mr. Brian,

I did as you suggested, but on boot time still get that message, “Page file Defragmented in 1 part, but needs approx 1320 more clusters for files & attributes.”

Thanks any how for trying. The problem I think is with DK software. (Thought was one of the best Defragmenter.)

But at least now I know how to create a new Page file.

Regards!
