Title: Is Ghost compatiable with Genie GBM Pro 6.0?
Post by Hulamau on Jan 28th, 2006 at 3:53pm
Just starting out with Ghost 10 and so far so good. But I am thinking of buying Genie-softs Genie Backup Manager Pro v.6.0 for backing up everything other than my C: drive on a daily scheduled basis.

1. Is there any advantage in using a program like Genie in addtion to Ghost as I've described it  (using an image prgram and a regular backup program is a suggestion from the RAD guide that suggests using Ghost only for critical OS backup and not for daily data stuff).

2. Does anyone know of any problems with having Ghost 10 and GMB Pro 6 installed on the same machine?

3. GMB Pro 6 looks like a good standard backup program, but does anyone suggest a better alternative?

Many thanks Hulamau

P.S. this is a stand alone XP-pro-SP2 machine with two Hitachi 250GB SATA-II internal drives and one Maxtor 300GB external drive home machine used for audio/video editing and web design and is not on a network.

Hulamau, I am unfamiliar with the Genie utility.  You may wish to search for product reviews of backup software at www.PCMag.com and www.PCWorld.com.  There are many options in this realm.

Don't forget to add an off-site component to your backup strategy.  I use the DataProtector service by Connected (http://onlinebackup.connected.com/index.asp) for this objective, as well to serve as my file-oriented backup mechanism.

Many thanks Neoplasm,

Yes, the Genie-soft GBM Pro v 6.0 seems to come up consistently as a solid winner so I'll likely go that route seeing that there are no obvious confilicts with Ghost 10.

And I will look into the off site side of things  tooat the addess you mentioned.

Cheers!
Hulamau
