Title: Help restoring from ghost image on mapped driive
Post by bkemp on May 23rd, 2006 at 3:50pm
Using Ghost 2003.

Trying to restore image onto a laptop that has no floppy drive.  It has a cd drive (not dvd).

I have the ghost image stored on a server, and I would like to boot up with the drive mapped.

The network card on the laptop is a B57.

Please point me to a guide, or even create a boot disc that I can burn to a CD.  (i have the ghost.exe and whatever MS-DOS files that I'll need to insert myself).

I've spent all morning trying to write an appropriate autoexec.bat and config.sys to meet my needs, but alas, I need help.

Gracias.

Does this help--it says its for Ghost 8.x, but the steps would apply to Ghost 2003 as well:

How to Create a Ghost 8.0 Network Boot CD

unfortunately, that guide doesn't really touch on dealing with a mapped drive, and the files for working with mapped drives that i have to add to the floppy to create the image are too large.

bkemp,

I've done this. Restored an image to a laptop (not fitted with a floppy drive) over the network. I used BartPE. Do you have Ghost 8.x or a Ghost 10 CD?

I'm using 2003, but I suppose I can gain access to 8.x or 10 if necessary.

What I did was to download BartPE and make a Ghost 8 plugin.

http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

I then made a ReatogoXPE CD after having copied the original Ghost 8 plugin into the ReatogoXPE plugin folder.

http://www.reatogo.de/

Boot to the CD (from your laptop), map the network drive and you can access your .gho file across the network and restore it to the laptop HD using the Ghost 8 plugin.

It works. It's easy if you are familiar with BartPE.
