Title: Ghost 2003 with XP media?
Post by Ivanov on Aug 13th, 2006 at 8:24am
Hello there,

I got a Dell XPS 2010 lap top, with customizations for 4600 bucks.

I was interested to know will imaging be the same using Ghost 2003 or any modifications needed regarding imaging?

I don’t like their preinstalled windows XP media center, especially MacAfee antivirus software……im gonna format & install windows XP media inmy own way with out MacAfee, id go with my trusted  AVG??

Hoping to hear from you once again,

Regards,

Ivanov Yezinki.

Do you have the separate WinXP Media Center installation CD?

Here's some issues as far as Ghosting:

Dan Goodell's *Inside the Dell Utility Partition*

Dan Goodell's *Inside the Dell PC Restore Partition*

How do you personally rate win media vs winxp pro?

Pros & cons of win xp media?

Regards!

Sorry, can't help you on that one--no personal experience with WinMedia.  You might want to create a new separate thread for that question in order to attract a little more attention--it will more hidden here.

Well, if you have the separate installation CD, and either you do not have, and/or do not want to keep the Dell Utility partition (apparently the utilities are on the Dell restore disc if you have that), and/or you don't want to keep the Dell restore partition, you can just delete those partitions and start over--making whatever layout you want--and then Ghosting will have no issues with those Dell partitions interfering.

All depends on what you are planning on doing.

Hi there,

Despite telling  to ship the note book blank I got preinstalled softwares, while trying to format & fresh install XP media I got a surprise.....

On the note books active drive there was a FAT (50MB)  & FAT32  (3.8GB) hidden partitions respectively active C NTFS in between them.......strange....

I deleted all the FAT partitions & made it all NTFS  during fresh install...

Wanna hear your views about FAT & FAT 32 partitions with a NTFS in the middle.....

Regards!!

So, if I follow, you deleted all the partitions on the Notebook, and used what you thought was the WinMedia installation CD--but that CD apparently is a *restore* CD to bring the system back to the *factory default installation state*--and not just the WinMeida installation CD--correct?

Did you get just the WinMedia installed--or did all the Dell *bloatware* get installed too?

Did you get *standard* Windows installation screens--or what type of setup screens were you presented with during the *install*?

If the CD is a restore CD to *factory defaults* installation--then obviously that's the partition layout Dell choose.

Hello NightOwl,

1. Installed only Win media since I have the FULL CD....no Dell junk.

2. Didn't use the Restore CD.

3. It's all NTFS now.

4. I'm running RAID 0, 128 KB, any suggestions regarding imaging?

Regards,

Ivanov.
