Title: Ghost ver 8.3, Endless Windows xp reboot
Post by Ginku on Aug 14th, 2006 at 11:58am
Hi There. we are currently trying the trailware for Ghost Solution Suite.

after the ghostcasting server has finsh restoring the workstation the computer would do an endless boot to the safe mode screen, when you press F8 to select safe mode and all that other stuff.

Here are the steps to prepare the Master Image to multiple machines

Install VLK Windows XP on one machine, install all programs needed for the company.
run sysprep.
shutdown computer.
reboot machine with ghost boot cd.
run ghost and store image to server.
everything finsh great.

on another computer here are the steps i have went to restore the ghost image
deleted all partation on workstation
reboot with ghost
restore image.
reboot computer.
computer goes keeps on going to safe mode screen.

the computer that i'd ran sysprep on works fine when i reboot it back into windows xp

i'm not sure exactly what i'm doing wrong here.

has anyone run into this problem before?

Ginku, I don’t have an answer to offer, but since you are evaluating the software, you may wish to try the Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery suite of products (formerly known as “LiveState Recovery”), which are the successors to the older Ghost Solution Suite.

it turns out that we have recently bought 3 copys of these to back up our main server to our tape drive.

i am in the process to reformat all 120 computers
so far ghost seems alot easier to work with.
i just can't seem to clone it to other machines.

i could restore it back to the same machine but still no go

the cost for the licenese is alot cheaper for ghost solution suite vs back up exec.

i would still like to find out what i'm doing wrong.

edit:

i don't think backup exec supports network cloning.
the version i have is for servers only.

Ginku,

I haven't used Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery but I have used its predecessor, LiveState Recovery. Where did you have problems with the Cloning function? Did the clone fail to boot?

yes the clone fail to boot.

it keeps on going to safe mode screen.
when you press F8 to select safe mode.

i'm woundering if it has anything to do with the bios settings?

i haven't been able to find any answer as of yet.

Ginku,

This explanation may be completely off track but have you been Cloning into Unallocated Space? When cloning from Windows this is necessary. It's not necessary when cloning from DOS. This link may be relevant as Ghost 9 is very similar to Live State Recovery and your software.

Any help or a waste of time?

any help is never a waste of time :P

yes, i'm trying to clone this computer and send them to multiple computers within the network.

i only have one partition.
i've did a complete wipe of the drive also deleted the hidden partition

edit:
when i'd used the program to delete the partation.
and use ghost cast server. does it create the full partition of the whole HD then clone the server? or does it just over write the file?

i'm woundering if it's because i haven't created the partation using fdisk to create a C drive partition then clone the HD?
anyone have any thoughts on this?
maybe this is where i have screwed up?

edit:

still no luck.

i have tried to create a ntfs partition using windows xp cd.
reimage the computer and it still won't boot to windows

are there any tools/software i could try?

i'm woundering if i should install xp in fat32 and clone that instead. do you think it will work?
