Title: Norton Ghost 10 + USB Hard Drive + HP Portable NW8
Post by brutus on Oct 24th, 2006 at 4:54am
Hi,

I've created a reovery point with Ghost 10 on a external USB hard drive but when i boot with the Norton Recovery Cd. The local hard drive is not recognized and the external hard drive is mapped to drive letter C:.
When pressing F6 during the boot proces Norton asks me to insert a disk in drive A: (which does not exist) with the appropriate drivers (whick i can not find on the site of HP)....
Please help/advice !

thx

brutus,

I assume you have a SATA HD. The Ghost 10 CD needs drivers to allow you to see your HD.

In Device Manage, open  IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers. Do you have an entry like Intel (R) 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI controller? Let us know what yours says.

In the meantime download these drivers and copy all to a floppy.

Select your OS and choose Previously Released Software at the bottom of the page. Then download Item 5

5.
Floppy Configuration Utility - Intel® Matrix Storage Manager [F6FLPY32.ZIP] (286KB)

5.1.0.1022
7/11/2005
Download

Creates floppy disk for 32-bit OS with Intel® Matrix Storage Manager 5.1.0.1022 files - used to preinstall RAID driver (F6 during Windows* setup)

When you press F6 and you see the floppy drivers, choose the AHCI one.

I hope it works. Let us know.

What doesn't exist? A disk or a floppy drive?

hi thx you.
Yes indeed there is no floppy drive present.
I've put the driver on a cd but that device is not used when pressing F6 during installation...

It will be helpful to answer the other questions that Brian asked in order to assist you going forward.

Welcome the the issues that a system without a floppy drive has created--I'm not sure why this has not been addressed by Microsoft and other software companies who create boot CD's when more and more systems come without floppy drives--must be technically a difficult solution!

You will probably have to add those drivers to your boot CD by burning a new boot CD--Brian is *in the know* about doing that--but probably needs your answers to his original questions.
