I have a little problem in my Ghost backup program in as much as I can't get rid of the old sets of Backups.
There is no way they will delete,
so I figure it must be in the Registry somewhere...
Help would be appreciated... D :'(

Dave_C, please review page 67 (and page 73+) in the Norton Ghost 10.0 User’s Guide for information on deleting backups/recovery points.

If that doesn’t help, please reply with additional details on your circumstances.

Have done all of the above, and there is no way to delete them.
Where there is a delete option, it is grayed out.
They seem to be phantom, and can't find them anywhere.
However, they do not show in the Backup/ Backup now window.
Would that not suggest the registry somehow ?  Thanks...  D

Using Windows Explorer (My Computer), can you see the Recovery Point files in the folder where they were originally created? Can you search My Computer for .v2i files and let us know what you find.

Hey Brian, Still here ?    I just completed the search, and the only ones that showed were my current backups.
I'm almost convinced it's in the registry somewhere. Or perhaps it'll need a re-install to get rid of them ....D

That's fine Dave. If you can't find the .v2i files then they have been deleted from your HD. I don't have Ghost 10 on my current computer but I do recall it was difficult to find the "delete" button. I'll check.

I tend to be lazy and delete the Recovery Points from Windows Explorer anyway so if I was using Ghost 10 I'd have a big list of "Undeleted" recovery points. As it's only in the Ghost 10 window and those recovery points don't exist, I'd ignore it. But you might like it neater.

Thanks Brian,,,Come to think of it, I've been deleting that way myself, so I guess that's why all the garbage is left...
Still you'd think there would be some way of getting rid of these Ghost entries. Must be in the registry somewhere.
I've tried to email Symantec from their website, but gave up on that, it's hopeless... D

I don't know where those entries are stored in the registry. Beware of making things worse.

Looks like you and I prefer the lazy way to delete Recovery Points. But the list in Ghost 10 is a side effect. I'll bet Ghost4me knows how to clean up that list.

Try this. Open Ghost 10.
Select Recovery on left
Optimize Recovery Point Storage on right
Click Clean up (top left)
Tick the ones you want to remove (should be size 0 bytes)
Delete

Does that work?

Dave_C, I am offering the following suggestion as a "hunch" – it is not something that I have tested myself, and can't assert that will be absent of unintended consequences.

Suggestion:  Find and the rename the file(s) "NG Recovery Point Storage.ini" to "NG Recovery Point Storage.old", reboot, and see if the problem corrects itself.  These files should in the root directory of each disk that contains recovery points.

Alternatively, since the behavior of Ghost that you are describing is atypical, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the application.

Dave_c, also try running Symantec's AutoFix Tool to detect any installation problems.

Thanks for that Pleonasm, I have already tried the Auto fix tool, it's a pretty useless piece of S---,
But I will try the renaming thing you suggested above, sounds like a good idea... D

Further to the renaming thing... I did rename the .ini file and rebooted. Low and behold, I had lost 5 of the 9 old entries.
I then renamed it back to what it was, and still the same/
ie/ 5 less entries.
I then renamed it again, and this time lost 1 more old entry.
I returned the name again, and am left with the last 3 entries.
The very last one is the only one that works.
I'm thinking now of deleting that .ini file, rebooting and doing a fresh back-up. Might just be the answer.
What do you think ?    D

Thanks for the suggestions... I tried the renaming of that .ini file and ended up with 4 entries left out of 9....
I renamed the file back to .ini, and all was fine but still had the 4 entries of which only 1 was able to work.
I again changed the name, and lost one more  old entry, so now I was left with 3 entries of which only one was active.
At that point I decided to Un-------- then Re------ which was no big deal and is what I probably should have done in the first place.
So now I am back to square one, and will delete from the proper place from now on ( OK Brian)   ... D
