Title: Ghost 10.0.2 update available
Post by Ghost4me on Nov 2nd, 2006 at 2:10pm
FYI, today I got notified via LiveUpdate that there is a Ghost 10.0.2 update to their software.

I downloaded the update.  However, I have no idea what the update contains or what was fixed in it.

Anyone know what's in it?

What’s in the Ghost 10.0.2 update, you ask?  Well, obviously, there are 0.2 more units of Ghost in the update!  :)

More seriously, though, is a new ReadMe.TXT file installed that describes the changes?

No.

The information is probably in the "Support" link on Symantec's website.   ;D

I like that explanation.

After the Ghost 10.0.2 update completed successfully, Ghost still reports that it is at version 10.0.0.8429 (in the "About Norton Ghost" screen).  Anyone else notice this?

The Ghost 10.0.2 update downloaded by LiveUpdate was only about 680KB.  Anyone can confirm the same, too?

By the way, I did a folder compare of "\Norton Ghost" pre- and post-update, and noticed that only a very few files in the ".\Agent" and ".\Browser" subfolders were modified.

Look in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads and sort by last date.  I found a file:
1162248078jtun_nghost102_package.zip.full.zip,
dated today, which is 431,184 bytes in length.

It's not a valid zip file though, so no telling what is in there.

Why don't you just ask your friendly personal Symantec support rep for the answer?   :)

Ghost4me, yes - I have the "ZIP" file with the identical size for the Ghost update.

Do you show Ghost reporting that it is at version 10.0.0.8429 (in the "About Norton Ghost" screen)?

No.  Mine shows 10.0.0.8400.   :(  You must have the "deluxe" version of Ghost!

Doesn't all this nice information make you feel comfortable?

My copy of Ghost 10.0 is part of SystemWorks 2006 Premier, while yours (I believe) is from Norton Save & Restore.  Although it shouldn't, could that possibly account for the difference in the version numbers?

While it has been some time now, I seem to remember the same thing happening with a Ghost 9.0 update:  namely, the update had a higher version number that was not reflected by the product after installation.

By the way, the .ZIP file that included the Ghost update is in RAR format.  You can use the free UnRAR utility to view/extract the contents of the archive.  (To be released shortly, WinZip 11.0 will support the RAR format for viewing/extracting.)

P.S.:  What do you mean, "Doesn't all this nice information make you feel comfortable?"
