Title: GHOST 2003 Support of NTFS 64K Cluster Size
Post by MCDP on Dec 21st, 2006 at 9:47am
Here is a hiccup I ran into that searching the forum or web I can't find an answer to.

While fiddling with my WinXP SP2 swap partition (i.e. pagefile.sys is on its own 1gb partition) I reformatted to NTFS v3.1 with 64K cluster size. However, I found that the DOS executable ghost.exe would not load and simply hang during the start up splash screen. I tried some of the switches like -f64 but that didn't work either. Even trying to do a log file dump with the -dd switch would not work, just hangs. I finally had to downsize from 64K to get ghost to work.

Is this a limitation of ghost or have I just overlooked a switch? Thanks to this forum for your help!

interesting.

can i ask why you prefer to use 64K clusters, instead of the default 4K?

what prgm did u use to re-format?

where are u running (loading) ghost.exe from? floppy? cd? hard drive?

i've found that the farther you stray from default settings, the more quirky problems you run into.

downsize to what? 4K clusters?

i've never heard of yer problem b4. i believe many raid arrays use 64K clusters (for speed), and i know many are able to use ghost with raid.
