Title: Restore from dvd Post by andy32901 on Jan 7th, 2007 at 12:31pm
I have Norton Save & Resore. I recently had a problem with my hard disk and had to restore my C:. this was before I had NSR. I used my HP restore partition which worked but I didn't have any of my programs from after I bought the PC.
I purchased NSR and am backing up to an external usb hard drive, and also archiving to DVD's. If I had to restore my C: according the the Help file I would boot using the rescue disk, I think thats what it is called. I can understand about that to get to my USB backups, but can someone give me step by step directions on how to restore using my DVD backups? I don't want to wait until the emergency happens to find out how to do it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Andy32901 |

andy32901,
The instructions are on page 143 of the userguide. You will be prompted when to change discs. Restoring from DVDs is a very slow procedure. Best avoided except as a last resort. |

Thanks Brian,
I see what you mean. "When you are restoring from CD, you are prompted to insert the first CD, followed by the last CD, the first CD, the last CD, then the first CD again. Then the restore begins and prompts you for the media in sequence. After restoring a recovery point, you will be prompted again to insert the first CD one more time. For example, if you had a recovery point that spanned across five CDs, the order you would insert the CDs would be as follows: 1-5-1-5-1-2-3-4-5-1." I won't be doing that except as a last resort I have the usb drive to use first. I couldn't find the reference before. Thanks for the pointer. Thanks, Andy |
