Title: Boot (F-12) menu does not list my new DVD drive
Post by cardinal23 on Mar 6th, 2007 at 1:43pm
Hi,
I just installed a DVD drive into a PC.  I set this DVD drive to Cable-Select.
Everything works (almost) perfectly.

I want to be able to BOOT from a DVD in this new drive.
When my PC starts, I can press F12 to get a Boot menu.
However, the new DVD drive is not one of the choices.  The choices are Floppy, Hard Drive C, and my CD player.  The new DVD player is not on the list.

So, what can I do so that the new DVD player appears on this F12 Boot Menu thereby making it possibly for me to boot from it?
Thank you

Well, there are 2 ways to look at this:
1)  Why isn't my new DVD drive on the boot menu?
   and
2) How can I solve the immediate problem (booting off the new DVD)?
I have, (understandably, I hope), opted for choice 2.
I opened the box and moved the IDE cable from the old CD drive to the new DVD drive and Voila! she now appears on the boot menu.  This tells me that I have a cable issue.  The permanent solution may likely be to jump the new DVD drive not as Cable-Select but as (somehow) Secondary Master.
Thanks

cardinal23,

My previous computer (Dell 8400) would only boot from the Master optical drive. The same as your computer. My current computer boots from both Master and Slave optical drives.

Yeah, sounds like your BIOS is a few years old.
