Title: Recover Files from a different Computer
Post by AndyT on Apr 4th, 2007 at 6:09pm
Hello, I am using Ghost 10 on a laptop and have created a backup image. I commute and use between the laptop and home computer. Can I theoretically recover individual files (like word and excel) from my laptop image to my home computer with Ghost on it? Or does the recover of individual files only work on the initial computer (laptop). I am just afraid that if my laptop is hosed totally (hardware fried) I can still pull the individual files to a different computer (home). Thanks.

AndyT,

Yes, no problem at all. Ghost on your home computer can do this in either of two ways. Using the Recovery Point Browser or by Mounting the recovery point as a drive. I prefer the latter way.

Besides recovering selected individual files, you can also select folders and recovery everything in the folder.

If you're transporting back and forth a lot, you might want to consider a usb thumb drive (in addition to your backup methodology).  They are getting so inexpensive now, and can hold a lot of data.
