Title: Bootable CD/DVD - on Steroids ??
Post by vl22 on Apr 11th, 2007 at 8:00pm
Using the Bootable DVD - on steroids, I was able to load and execute ghost2003. But when i go to load an image, I'm getting @CD-R1 "This disc was not created with Norton Ghost". I burned the image off the USB drive using NERO. Please advised.

Thanks.

If you do not use Ghost to burn directly to optical media, Ghost will error out with the message that an image file is not a Ghost file if you later burn it to optical medial and attempt to access it using Ghost's built-in optical access that is indicated by *@CD-R1...*

The *Bootable DVD -- on steroids* should be loading DOS optical drive drivers so your optical drive is assigned a DOS drive letter--if you access the image via the drive letter assigned to the optical drive--that should solve the problem--do you have a DOS drive letter for your drive?

I do not have a DOS drive letter assigned for my drive.
I have a single DVD/CD burner.

Thx.

Are you loading *oakcdrom.sys* and *mscdex.exe* from your boot files?

Does your optical drive require a more specialized DOS driver than *oakcdrom.sys*?

Is it a SATA optical drive--or IDE interface?

I've followed the Bootable DVD project, so yes.

I'm not sure if it needs a specialized DOS driver,
it's a Double-Layer 16X Multi-Writer DVD drive.

It's an IDE interface.

Thx.

When booting, just after the POST and the boot CD is just beginning to load DOS--I think it says *loading Win98*--press F8 key--if you have pressed the F8 key in time, you should get the option to use *step-by-step* booting--what happens when *oakcdrom.sys* is loaded--i.e. the results listed on the monitor--should show that your optical drive is seen and mounted?

And, what happens when *mscdex.exe* is loaded--should show drive letter X:\ assigned to your optical drive--what message do you get after loading the program?

1 - Device name :NightOwl
    No drive found: aborting installation

2 - Device drive not found 'NightOwl'
No valid cdrom device drivers selected

Well, that suggests that your optical drive is not compatible with the *standard* DOS optical drive driver--the *oakcdrom.sys* driver.

What is the make/model of optical drive?

Did it come with a DOS driver on a floppy disk or CD driver disc?

Is there a DOS driver available from the manufacturer's website--you need a substitute for the *oakcdrom.sys* driver--the *mscdex.exe* driver probably will work fine if the other replacement driver is available?

Does your system have a floppy disk drive?

It's a HLDS Double-Layer 16X Multi-Writer DVD Drive.
Not sure what manufacture makes it.

I don't have a floppy drive on the system and no supporting CD driver disc.

Do you have the Ghost 2003 installation disc?  If *Yes*, it is bootable and you should get a menu during boot-up that lets you select *Optical Drive Support* or something to that effect--does your optical drive get a DOS drive letter assigned during that boot process (you can again use the F8 function key to do a *step-by-step* boot)--any luck?
