Title: Interesting Visual C++ Library Runtime Error fix
Post by c627627 on Apr 27th, 2007 at 7:11pm
Using PowerQuest Drive Image 2002 and a dual boot Windows XP / Windows Me: When I boot into Windows Me and try to restore the Windows XP partition, I get this error often but not always:

Microsoft Visual C++ Library

Runtime Error!
Program: ...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Interesting solution is:

This is a dual boot Windows XP / Me system. I only get this error when I boot into Windows Me and try to reimage the other Windows XP partition. I'm guessing the error has to do with program being installed under Windows Me.

Reinstalling it doesn't fix the problem but interestingly this does:

1. Start Drive Image 2002 ImageExplorer.

2. Delete Powerquest Drive Image 2002 program folder.

3. Restore the same program folder to the same location but from a Drive Image file using ImageExplorer.

4. Close everything, start the restored .exe file and it works.

This does not work if I delete the program folder then instead of restoring it from a Drive Image file as described, if I copy-paste the same contents from another location.

It only works if I restore the program folder from a drive image file.

I'm curious to find out possible theoretical explanations for the solution I posted.

The program does not go through with reimaging giving a Visual C++ Library Runtime Error, then it DOES go through AFTER the contents of the Powerquest Drive Image program folder are replaced with identical contents from the compressed drive image .pqi file.

What changed... is the question :)
