Thanks.  I remember as a child having to memorize and recite Flanders Fields in school.

Let's not forget our Aussie and Kiwi friends (as well as other countries) this weekend, and their similar tribute which occurs on Anzac Day,  25 April.

ETN2 James Frank 'Jimmy' Tindol, III was a childhood friend and schoolmate who lived down the street where we were both raised in Shreveport, Louisiana.  We went to school together, we went fishing together and we hunted gamebirds together.

I was serving at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Marine Laboratory on Grand Terre Island (adjacent to Fort Livingston which is across Barataria Pass from the USCG station on the eastern tip of Grand Isle) when we received word that Jimmy was aboard the USS Scorpion (SSN 589) when she went down.  Still hurts.
