Title: Ghost 12 and 82801 Intel SATA (mirror) RAID
Post by Chris_Sav on Jul 28th, 2007 at 3:30am
Hi,

Config, Asus P4C800e-delux with 82801 intel stat (mirrored) raid, backing up to USB HD

Ghost 10 drove me around the twist with my mirror RAID and I only bpught it a couple of monthe before 12 came out!

I unwisely installed some rubbish on my HD and I want to recover to a backuo from a few days ago. Worried about losing days mucking about with F6 and RAID drivers as I have in the past I read up on Ghost 12. Much better the reviews said, no more F6, creates own recovery CD, Wonderful!! bought it, downloaded it, installed it, burnt iso image, all great!

Right, create recovery disk! fire it up, message found 82801 sata raid that ghost hasn't drivers for, brill!, create recovery CD and test it.

PC boots up fine from CD, much quicker than with 10, only problem - no RAID set! USB drive shows as 'C'.

Reboot from HD and run driver validation and recovery CD still shows as no RAID drivers

================================
The following devices do not have drivers in the Symantec Recovery Disk.

Chris_Sav,

If your USB drive shows as 'C' then you have no SATA drivers. But you know that.

Did you already have a recovery CD? To create a custom recovery CD I had to insert the original CD.

A couple of choices. Contact Symantec for a custom CD.

Chris,

Also see page 172 in the userguide re loading SATA drivers from the recovery environment. Or just use the F6 option.

Argg F6!!! horrible word, the stress from a minor recovery!! Ghost 12 is supposed to do it all for you and give you an amended recovery CD that works for the idiosyncracies on your system.

Had a bright idea stuffed my F6 (yuk) floppy disk in with the RAID drivers on and used the 'custom' create recovery CD to force it to load those instead of doing it automatically (or rather not doing and not telling).

Pleased to say that worked, and driver validation said all OK. I restored an image from four days ago, now copying the odds & bods of data from the last couple of days that I saved separately.

Anyone know where or why it would not work automatically?

Thanks for the suggestions

Chris.

Thanks for that new technique.
