i have 2 partition and my backup image is on the second one. i have a usb bootable key with ghost on it that will run a batch file to launch ghost. what i want to do is launch ghost and load the ghost image from partition 2 to partition 1 how can i do that. it's a ntfs partition. went i try i get a error so probaby the command is wrong.

I moved your question to this forum because it appears to be a DOS based Ghost question.

Will need more specific details in order to answer your question(s):

1.  What version of Ghost?

2.  After launching Ghost, in the drop down menu for either source or destination partitions--how are your two partitions listed--by a drive letter or by a drive # + a partition # (i.e. 1:1, 1:2)?

3.  Are both partitions NTFS?

4.  What is the error # and the text of the error message?

5.  Post the contents of your *config.sys*, *autoexec.bat*, and the command line your are attempting to use.

And, there are examples in the various Ghost User Guides--see page 166, *Cloning Switch Usage*, in the Ghost 2003 Guide, as well as page 170, *Examples of cloning switch usage*:  Ghost 2003 User Guide

Once we have more details, we can trouble shoot the command line issue(s).

it's both ntfs
it's listed as 2:1  and 2:2

sorry the error is abort 10014 cannot open \xp.gho

Looks like your system has another hard drive that is seen before your boot HDD...being as the one you're working with is 2:1, and 2:2.

From the reference above (Switches:  Cloning):

Here's your command line:

Why not try it from a FAT32 partition ????
here is an example which worked for me with win98 and windows XP

Thank nighowl it work, i receive an error 1408 that it can't load the image them it return to ghost and load it fine. i can live with it like that.

it works fine on one computer but if i got to another computer and try running just ghost.exe from my usb key it launch ghost and freeze nothing come up. do i need another driver or something?

Are you launching Ghost from the USB key on the successful computer?

What's different about the system that's working vs the one that's freezing?

There can be a multitude of USB compatibility issues to possibly trouble shoot!

Maybe!?  Depends on the system and what the problem might be.

the only computer that i can get it to work on is dell 270 it doesn't work on dell 745 or 280 or 620. i will do some research and let you know.

resolve the issue, the problem with ghost were if you have STATA hard drive and it's in normal mode it will not work, so you can change it to legacy mode and it will work.
