Title: Norton Save & Restore!!! Post by Beetleman on Aug 18th, 2007 at 12:30am
On a regular basis I have my computer do a backup of the computer and also the files, with recovery points, all of this going to an external hard disk, which over time has filled up this drive. Is it possible to delete the older backups in order to create extra space on this drive.
What I am looking to do is to delete the oldest backups to retrieve space on this drive. Is it just a matter of looking in these backup folders and selecting by date the oldest and deleting them or is there some more complex method than this Cheers!!! |

Beetleman,
I'm sure there is a complex way to do this but I wouldn't bother trying to find it in NSR. I just delete the recovery points from Windows Explorer (My Computer). Plain and simple. Delete as many as you like. NSR may complain later that it can't find these deleted recovery points but ignore the complaint. That's how I've done it with all the Ghosts. |

Brian, that's what I do also for Ghost 9,10, and 12. But with Norton Save & Restore, you have all the norton-style-zip files of the folders and files, so it isn't practical. Beetleman, you can limit the number of image backups in the settings for that job. Or, you can let NSR manage everything for you. Look in the manual, starting on page 94. ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/products/norton_save_restore/2.0/manuals/user_guide.nsr_2.pdf Quote:

I'm having a problem choosing the number. It's grayed out. Anyone know why? Here's an image of it. Thanks. |

I think it is because you don't have any File and Folder backups defined. That option is greyed out on my G12 as well, and I don't have File and Folder backups defined either; just image backups. So, it doesn't apply to image backup settings. Set those in the image backup definition.
"Limit file versions for file and folder backups". |
