Title: How Do I Create A Usb HDD Backup Of My C Windows Drive With Ghost v11?
Post by thundercat on Apr 13th, 2008 at 3:08am
Hello everyone,

As you can see I'm a newbie. I'm using the Ghost I purchased from a co worker. He told me Ghost is the best way to clone your C drive in case of hardware failure. Now I've heard of Ghost before but never thought much of it with all the other HDD recovery and cloning tools out there. But after reading through google I see it's the best to use! I have no idea how to use Ghost in boot mode or anything that has to do with backing up a drive in boot mode with Ghost. So I don't want to make any mistakes.

Ok well here's my dilemma... I have an 80GB HDD in my computer which is partitioned into two parts. Half of it is my C windows drive with all of my programs etc. & the other half of it is my E data drive which I only use for family pictures and word files. I just purchased a Seagate Free Agent Pro 500Gb external usb HDD, and would like to make a backup of my entire C windows drive onto it. I don't want to copy my E data partition just my C windows partition.

Can someone teach me how to backup my C windows partition onto my usb external HDD using Ghost in computer boot mode please? A step by step guide would be helpful... I can afford to lose all my C drive and have to make a complete reinstall. That would take days of installing programs and setting them up the way I like them. Please let me know how do to so with my usb drive and whatever it takes to explain how to do a backup in great detail because I'm scared of ruining my new usb drive if I do this. I have data on my usb drive already and I'm scared of overwriting it or messing up my usb drive by not connecting it the right way while doing a backup of my C drive with Ghost. Oh BTW I'm using Ghost v11.0.2.

Thank You Very Much

Yes I've seen that but all I understand from that main page is the features various Ghost version have. There's no valid step by step info about any boot backup procedures. & when I click any links on the version info chart, it just takes me to threads where people talk about issues the program has. As mentioned there is no in depth step by step guide, just version info. No offense but it's the same kind of info you would get if you go to amazon, downloads.com, etc. & just look to buy the software. Basically sales info...

Can someone explain it to me step by step? Or give me a valid link to do so. Or even copy and paste the info from some other thread if you want. PLEASE.

I have not used Ghost 11. Is it DOS-based or Windows-based?

If DOS, this might help:

If Windows-based, try this:

.. tho I can't imagine you haven't already seen those, if you read thru the guides.

If using DOS-based version with USB, you might find this thread helpful:
