Title: Not doing incremental image Post by vince on Jul 17th, 2008 at 11:59am
I am using Ghost 12 on Vista.
I notice that my incremental drive backups work fine, unless I restore back to my initial recovery point. Once I do that, when I try to run an incremental backup of the drive, it does a complete backup. To clarify, I ran a base image of my C: drive on July 1. I later restored back to July 1. Then I wanted to create an incremental image to add onto the July 1 image, but it created a new base image instead. I am wondering if this is because the restoration deletes the data in the Ghost history folder on C:, so Ghost does not know it has already created an initial base image. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If it is correct, is there a way around this? Thanks |

vince,
That's how Ghost works with WinXP. I haven't tried it with Vista. If you restore an image, the next created image will be a full baseline backup. If you do a hard shutdown, the next created image will be a full baseline backup. See this thread re VSNAP.IDX http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=other&message.id=2872 |

OK thanks.
Do you suppose that if I copied that file before the restore and put it back in after the restore, that I would be able to do an incremental image? Thanks |

OK thanks.
If I get a chance to try it I'll report back here. |
