Title: How to clon a laptop
Post by vishwajit Kumar on Jul 29th, 2008 at 1:50am
We have a Laptop on which few very important programs are installed which are necessary to be on so many other systems too. We want to create clones of the same system.  Just wanted to confirm if it would work or not. Can we create a clone on another laptop which has a different  hardware configuration  and operating system.
Kindly suggest for the best solution and if possible please send the recommendations and prerequisites  for cloning a computer using any cloning software.

The standard answer for XP or Vista is that you cannot move the OS from PC to PC unless they are EXACTLY alike.  Same make and model, etc.

That's a security (anti-piracy) feature built into all Windows OS's since Windows ME.

Making yourself a System Restore CD/DVD is easy with Ghost, but it will only restore to the PC it was created on. (make and model, again)

Cheers Mate!
