Title: hard drive wiped - recovery options?
Post by kickin on Aug 6th, 2008 at 11:44am
i had a tech accidently START to image a hard drive prior to backing up the data stored on it. The system was unicasted using the DOS version of GSS 2.01 (v11.01 on the ghost.exe i believe). It only ran for about a minute before it was stopped. When using some pro recovery tools, it finds some of the new partition structure with filenames but none of the old.

any ideas on recovery?

You almost certainly won't be able to recover anything from the old system; all the most important filesystem structures - for NTFS, the main one being a thing called the Master File Table - will have been overwritten and that usually means that there is basically no chance of recovering the old data.

Hello again,
useful information:
....................................
Recuva - File Recovery Free

Recuva (pronounced "recover") is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

Freeware

Like all other Piriform products (including CCleaner), Recuva is free for both commercial and personal use.
