Title: TROUBLE GETTING TO http://radified.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl
Post by Jerry|Jer| on Mar 7th, 2009 at 3:13pm
I have to try at least four or five times before I am taken to this site. At the bottom of my screen it says ... Looking up radified.com and then the screen that says IE cannot display the page. Finally after four or five tries I may finally connect. What's going on? I had the same trouble with my old PC.  Always the same. Never changes. I have shortcuts to the site which I click on. Also save to favorites. Same problem. Anyone else have this problem which I do not have getting to any other site.

Jerry,

The error messages you mention are very generic.  Could you collect some more information for us?

First, do you have the same issues reaching the blog?  http://radified.com/index2.html

Second, could you open a command prompt next time the issue occurs, run the following commands, and post the output?

Quote:
nslookup radified.com

ping radified.com

ping 208.79.239.88

tracert 208.79.239.88

The output from those commands will help us narrow down what is giving you difficulty.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll will try pinging the site as you suggest. I did click on the blog and went there with lighting speed.  Well ... maybe not lighting speed ... but you get the picture I'm sure.
Appreciate the help

also, at the bottom of this page:

http://www.pingplotter.com/freeware.html

is a free traceroute called pingplotter.

perhaps, when noticing these laggy times, you could run a trace and post your results (*.gif ).

rad in seamonkey

could be our web host, or could be routers between you and the rad web host, which is in chicago.

if radified is your only problem, then it doesn't sound like a prob with your isp.

The blog is served from the same server setting on the same network with the same IP address.  The fact that you can get to the blog with no issues rules out network related things, so this will be interesting.

Next time you have the problem, just report your results of trying the blog and the commands above and we'll see what we can figure out.

i'm picking nits, but the 'blog' is really here:

http://mt4.radified.com/

index2 is technically the 'homepage' .. tho i do certainly blog there.

as is the same tho more cool index.rad:

http://radified.com/index.rad

yes, they are all served from the same server, tho the forum suks more cpu cycles.

Does that look like his ISP = prob?

I spend lots of time at the site, and haven't had any problems.

A positive and a negative......

First the negative.

Jerry, why are you still using that totally UNSAFE I.E. ???

Now for the positive.
Jerry, you're not the only one who has had a problem getting into this site.
It was just a day or so ago that I had the same problem.
I immediately tried other sites and forums, to verity my ISP connection and everything was working 100%.

After reading a few other sites I came back to RADIFIED forums and got right in.  I use ONLY Mozilla Firefox and a Satellite ISP, (Wild Blue).

So apparently the 'problem' is neither the ISP or the Browser.
Today, I got right in, with no problems at all. (as usual)

I never get excited over intermittent internet problems.  They happen all the time with one site or another.  If you let those little glitches get to you, well, your life will be a mess. ::)

When you access a web site, somewhere on the WWW, you are going thru countless 'nodes' on the net to get to your desired destination,,,,it's not a direct connection.

An overloaded 'node' anywhere along the path, can cause a delay.
I'm afraid that we'll see more such 'Delays' as the use of the WWW increases.

When I log in to this site, I may be going thru a node in "Lower Slobovia" or some such place.  Who knows?

Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?

if you guys have trouble accessing the site, pls post a traceroute, so i can go to my webhost and show them data.

there are numerous reasons why you may be having trouble loading a particular site. i need to be able to show the problems are do to the Rad server, and not some other reason.

for example, here's a trace i just ran (17-KB *.gif). notice the site is responding well, but that there's slower-responding hops between here and there. i can't show this to my webhost and complain, cuz it shows the site reponding well.

We'll need to troubleshoot your DNS further.  Next time you have trouble, please open a command prompt, and run the following set of commands, then post the output:

Ok, I'm trying to decipher what you did but you've made it a lot of work and I just can't be sure what is going on.  In order to help, I'd like for you to cut the commands I gave you above and paste them into the command prompt rather than typing them yourself.  That will eliminate typos like "ns lookup" when it should have been "nslookup".

Also, please copy the results out of the command window and paste them into the forum.  I can't tell if your typos are before or after you ran the command.

A few years ago, I was so SICK of I.E. that I could chew nails.  For instance I could not work Yahoo Groups at all with I.E.  I had to use the old clunky "Netscape".
Then Mozilla Firefox came along,,,,,even in the pre-release versions it was like a breath of fresh air!  :) :) :)
I could go wherever I liked and everything just worked.

YES, a thousand times YES, I highly recommend Firefox.
Didn't you get that impression from the Signature line on my last post?
I thought that was obvious! ;) ::)
I even gave you the link to download it!!!

This is almost too much. It took me all of about twenty minutes to get in this time.  If you can't figure anything out here I am just going to give up on the forum. I know it is not your fault, but time is precious and if I have to spend this much time trying as much as I enjoy learning from the forum, well I'll just have to quit until someone figures something out.  I'll be back at once more time to see if it can be figured out. I don't know what the cingular reference is to, unless it's my air-card which is from cingular.

It looks like your Cingular DNS server is not responding to you.  This is an issue with their server.  The other DNS server I had you try (4.2.2.1) did respond and did give you the correct answer.

An easy fix is to change the DNS server your computer is using.  Instead of 209.183.35.23 (which is your Cingular DNS server), you could try 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.  These servers are owned by OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com/).  There instructions on their site for making the change if you aren't familiar with the process:

https://www.opendns.com/start/computer/

It is not too difficult and should take less than 5 minutes.

Another possible solution is to call Cingular next time you have this issue and have them troubleshoot the issue with you.  Perhaps they can get their server fixed.  It is probably easier and less frustrating to change over to OpenDNS, though.

Mucho Gracious. That appears to have done the trick. Hellsbones had suggested in a personal message that he also thought it was in the DNS server settings. But I was not brave enough to wade in there ... until tonight. Many thanks again. Perhaps that will help in a number of other areas too.
