I chose make a snapshot. It worked fine.
now I have a similar problem. ww when using ghost.exe from Ghost 11.5 peer to peer, i get message cannot lock volume. The destination volume could notbe locked as it is in use by another process ... different from before, I do not get a choice unlike before. It does not let me continue. |

Just to be sure--are you booting to DOS and using *ghost.exe*? Or, are you booted to Windows and using *ghost32.exe*? I've only seen messages about *dismounting* and using *snap-shot*, and *volumes not being able to be locked* when using Ghost from within Windows! |

Here is a more detailed account. Help please.
I am trying to do a Local restore C partition from an image on F partition using ghost32.exe on the desktop. I get question 1855 A destination volume could not be locked as it is in use by another process. Do you wish to attempt to force a dismount on this volume? ALL OPEN FILES ON THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. I replied Yes and got Error A destination volume could not be locked (641) |

So, is the C partition your OS partition that you load/run Windows from? If *Yes*, then you can not use *ghost32.exe* to restore the active OS partition--the OS is running Ghost32 for you--if you attempt to over-write that active OS, the process would eliminate all the active processes running the OS, including Ghost! You must run Ghost32 from some flavor of WinPE, BartPE, or a stand alone second partition with Windows on it that you can boot to and restore that image file to the inactive C partition. Or, boot to DOS and run the *ghost.exe* program--the DOS based Ghost program that is not dependent on the Windows OS. Quote:
Although accurate, sometimes the error messages don't tell the necessary information you need to know! Does the above represent your problem--does it help? |

I see.
Back in the day I think it was possible with ghost 2003 booting from floppy. I plan to go back and create a bootable ghost 2003 to help ease the floppy disk pains. thank you |

Ghost 2003?! Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 (source for Ghost 11.5) should have its own Ghost Boot Wizard! But any DOS boot disk that gets you to DOS should work fine--but, the *ghost.exe* for Ghost 11.5 is larger than what can fit on a 1.44 MB floppy disk--may have to have it on an optical disc that you can access from DOS, or on a flash drive--bootable, or otherwise accessible in DOS, or on a FAT partition that DOS can access on an internal HDD, or an external USB HDD. Of course, *ghost32.exe* can not be run from DOS, but could probably be run from a BartPE or similar Windows based boot disc. |

Good to hear! Something else I forgot to mention--newer Ghost versions are *backward* compatible with older Ghost version image files--but an older version of Ghost may not be able to work with an image file that was created by a newer version of Ghost! So, Ghost 2003 may not be able to restore an image file created by Ghost 11.5--while Ghost 11.5 may work fine with an image file created by Ghost 2003! |
