Title: YaBB v2.4 released
Post by Rad on Apr 18th, 2009 at 6:39pm
The boys at YaBB released version 2.4 a few days ago. See here:

http://www.yabbforum.com/downloads.php

We're currently using v2.31, which was released in January.

Looks like they are hot on updating all the mods I need. Just waiting for them to post a *.tar.gz version, which I can upload to the Rad server and decompress there. They currently only have a *.zip.

The *tar.gz file is posted. I downloaded and uploaded it to the server and have installed.

Getting ready to throw the switch and convert the forums to Y2.4.

Probably will do it Sunday (May 4th).

Okay, the upgrade to YaBB v2.4 is complete. Everything appears to have gone okay. I didn't notice any errors. Lemme know if you notice any quirks.

New features & bug-fixes can be found here:

http://www.yabbforum.com/downloads.php

Y2.4 was released April 13th. (No that wasn't a Friday .. I checked.)

Well....the font size in the reply box is now *huge*--I'm using the default forum template that you have designated--not one of the ones I've added in the past.

And, my *signature* font size at the bottom of each post has become *huge* also.

I haven't played around much yet--so don't know if those represent something I've designated in the past or not.

And, you seem to be signed in under a new name!?

New *quirk*--

Tried replying to a post that had *all caps* in the title line--and the forum software would not let me post the reply until I got rid of the *caps*--I did not test to see how many *caps* I had to remove before it would allow posting again.

Error message was:

Quote:
It appears that you are trying to write using ALL CAPS.

Please be aware this is against forum rules.

See here:  SwITCH FoR AUTOmATIC SHUTdOWN/REBoOT oF PC AFtER BaCKUP

(Note:  also would not allow *all caps* in the link--looks like each word had to have at least one small letter--except *PC*--WOOOW--looks like if the word as five letters *all cap*--okay, but six letters--not okay!!!)

I noticed the same. However, I always felt that the font was far too small for the selected size. I recall taking screenshots of the text and posting them beside other text shots to compare and showing them to the folks at YaBB .. saying that their 12-point Verdana was not 12 points. We worked hard to try to enlarge that text but were unable .. until they gave us the feature .. but that clearly still under-estimated the font size.

I always felt their 12-point was actually 9-points. Now however, I feel the text-size setting is finally accurate. And it is simple for users to down-click a few sizes, which is what I have done. Went from 13 to 11-point.

Regarding your sig, I did nothing to change that .. but isn't it easily tweakable by you?

Re all CAPS. That is a setting in the forum. They let you set how many characters prompts a message. I can disable if it bothers you. I forget exactly where it is right now, but sure I could find it again.

I see what you mean about that stupid error and have disabled the ALL CAPS setting (set to '0'). It's found under 'Posting' .. ~ 1/3rd the way down. It was set to '6'. They can't jab you for posts that have ALREADY been made using all caps. I thought setting was for new-posts-only.

The time readout is no longer on the home page. A clock is handy to calculate how long ago a post was made.

do you mean in top-left corner?

i have enabled in forum controls and can see on my page in ie8.

you may need to enable it in your user cp (under 'options'). think that's what i had to do.

update .. when i put a check in the box to enable dynamic clock, the clock goes away, but when i remove check, it appears. seems backwards, but i have the clock.

just installed advanced email mod.

tho not 'officially' updated yet to be compatible with y2.4, the mod guys feel it should work fine.

must first enable email notifications in your user cp (dropdown selection listed under 'options' section/page).

problems?

I don't have a tick and yes, the clock is present. But only when I'm logged in. When I'm not logged in there is no clock. There has always been a clock in the past when I'm not logged in.

You're right. I see. Lemme ask the boys at YaBB.

I thought the clock problem was due to our using an old template, but I upgraded the template to one made for Y2.4 (called 'Midnyte') and the problem is still there. So it must be due one of the mods. I use three. The last one I installed (advanced email mod) was not yet formally verified to work with Y2.4, so maybe that's culprit. But to be sure, I'd have to uninstall each separately.

Tho I'm not sure what any of these mods have to do with the clock.

I'm betting it's the upgrade to v2.4.  The clock is there when signed in, but gone when signed out and viewing as a *guest*--other features are disabled when you are viewing as a *guest*--so guessing the clock feature got moved into that category as well--?
