Title: The Future of Norton Ghost

The following comment may be of interest to members of this forum community:

Quote:
Rumor has it that the entire Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) engineering team is in the process of being laid off, and that the code for BESR is being transitioned to a team in India.  Your guess is as good as mine as to BESR's fate, but personally I doubt we'll be seeing any new significant innovation on that product line.

If this rumor proves to be true, then it doesn't bode well for the continued enhancement of Norton Ghost, unfortunately.

Rad, I personally find it difficult to believe that Symantec would actually discontinue Norton Ghost (or BESR), since the fixed costs of development are already expended.  Whether they choose to substantially enhance the product in the future (beyond minor changes to ensure compatibility with new releases of Windows) seems to be in question.
