Title: Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool In Windows 7
Post by Christer on Jun 14th, 2010 at 5:46am
At the time being ... :-X ... I've got no access to a W7 computer and can't try it myself. Is there anyone out there who has tried Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool In Windows 7?

@ Christer

I've used it from Win 7 and from a USB flash drive. Why the question?

This person is glad he used it...

Brian,

Why the question?

The owner of a computer I built experienced random bluescreening and I wanted to know if this test works well. He took one module (of two) out and the bluescreening went away. He changed modules and the bluescreening was back. This indicated a faulty RAM module but there were also indications that it might be the driver for the wireless network card. After updating this driver, there has not been any bluescreening (both modules fitted). He ran this test and it indicates no problems with the RAM.

I wanted some feedback indicating that running this test alone is adequate or if other tests are recommended as confirmation of the results.

I have been googling and as I understand it, some memtests have a maximum limit at 4 GB and nowadays that amount seems to be a minimum, even in "low end" computers. I have not seen anything indicating a limit for this test.

This doesn't answer your question, but the Ubuntu Linux Alternate Install CD includes a memtest which I've used successfully with up to 32GB of RAM.

I've got a friend who's "into" Linux. Maybe I can borrow his CD or even get one for myself ... :o ... not to nstall Linux but for the memtest.

Either way.  The ISO is available as a free download.

Has Memtest86 bottomed out, on the amount of ram it will test?  It runs great from a boot FD, USB Pen drive or CD.
(which takes windows out of the picture all together)
