Post by ben_mott on Sep 15th, 2010 at 2:45pm
hello again,

here is a Free Anti Virus Bootable CD
http://www.free-av.c...cue_system.html
very useful if Pc does not boot because of the virus.
it is Linux but works on Windows Operating systems XP,VISTA WIN 7,
Avira AntiVir Rescue System

Avira AntiVir Rescue System is a Linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore. Thus it is possible to:

* repair a damaged system,
* rescue data,
* scan the system for virus infections.

Tip
always use imgBurn to copy the ISO to a CD-R

it is better and easier than Nero

Your links all seem broken to me.

I checked this program and found a review at Beta News, so it seems legit.  Any idea how well it works?  What anit-virus engine does it use?  Have you tried it yourself?

AVG tells me:

Sorry, the page you have requested cannot be found. Please check that the URL  is typed correctly. It is also possible that the link you clicked is out-of-date and the information has been moved. Please use one of the following links to continue:

Eh?

;)

I did get all sorts of persistent and found this link for the Recovery CD.

I think I'll download it now.

Since AVG is my favorite AV program, that's the only one I tested.
Using the link in my last post, I downloaded the ISO to the boot CD, burned the CD using "ImgBurn" and booted up my main system with it.  Being very familiar with DOS type menu's, getting to the scan and running it was a piece of cake.

I was glad to see some other Utilities on the CD menu as well as the virus scan, such as Memtest86.

It looks like it will be a very useful CD, for any tech, myself included.

Good Luck,
Old Casper
