Title: GhostCast Server: log files ?
Post by yak103 on Jul 18th, 2011 at 8:14am
Hello everyone,
Sorry if my first message is an appeal for help, but I have been on Radified for some time, educating myself :)
We use GhostCast in a production environment, with very stric norms, SOPs, etc etc. IT launches the ghost sessions, Logistics fires up the clients (the two teams are located in separate buildings)
An external audit pinned us for "not being able to verify which image was being applied to the clients"

It's always easy to respond to auditors "well we use common sense", but as everyone knows, auditors are not common human beings, so that response cannot apply to them.

Anyway...
I tried using Options and both log options (log clients & troubleshooting), but they don't provide me with what I need:

Image name + number of clients + timestamp

Does anyone know how to extract this session information ?

Not sure I can be of help--I don't use the Corporate version of Ghost and don't work in that environment.

But a couple thoughts:

When using Ghost 2003 from its Windows interface--after doing a Ghost procedure, there is a log in Windows showing the source HDD, the destination HDD, and the time/date stamp--and the image file name if an image is involved--Corp Ghost doesn't have similar logging output?

I thought the GhostCast server could remotely start clients, or at least initiate the Ghost session as long as the client was *on*--why does *Logistics* have to do anything?  If the GhostCast server was launching the Ghost session on the clients, wouldn't its log show the details?

Thanks for answering :)
Logistics just fires up the 16-24 clients, that's all they do
They all boot to PXE, join the session, reboot when completed, etc

Where in Windows do you mean the log file is created ? I did check and found nothing in the Ghost folder... I played with the session "options" ("all", "info", etc etc) and could not get it to detail the image name...
