I went to Terabyte to check for new versions and found that "ifl_nonet_en_gui" now has a 64-bit companion, "ifl_nonet_en_gui_x64".

What is the difference between the two? Has it anything to do with the system which is to be imaged?

If that is not the case, does it matter which one I use to create the bootable USB-device?

Use which ever one you like. I use x64.

In 2015 TeraByte Support wrote...

x64 must have matured as it's now the default IFL in "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite\IFL"

You can install either 686 or x64 IFL in a 64-bit Linux OS.

I don't run any Linux distribution but only create a USB-device to run IFL on an unbooted system. I assume that this also means "use which ever one you like".

Yes, you can use 686 or x64 and you won't notice the difference. Perhaps x64 is better for running scripts in a UEFI system but you aren't doing that.
