aspi problem
Mar 10th, 2002 at 9:38pm

???
Hi there,

After reading Radified Guide to Updating ASPI Layer, I still have no luck. My current OS is Windows ME. I already installed Force ASPI and used ASPI ckecker to check my current ASPI. It says ASPI 4.60 is properly installed and is fully operational. "However, no host adapters have been detected (0xE8)."

As I open Nero 5.5.7.8, there is a message saying that Win-ASPI file missing under Nero start-up. I still can't burn CD after updating ASPI layer.

After following Radified Guide and doing anything I could have possibly done, I guess it might have something to do with "no adapters have been detected".

If anyone knows how to solve this problem, please let me know. I would really appreciate since I don't know much about this stuff.

Thanks a lot!

5578 is out already? I'm still using 5564. I'm d/l'ing 78 now, going slow.

You don't mention any of your system specifics, so I can only guess. You prolly have IDE burner. Is it listed on their approved page:

http://www.nero.com/en/recorder.htm

I assume that you have unofficial version, or you'd be asking Nero sppt. Their sppt page is here:

http://www.nero.com/en/support.htm

I have used Nero sppt a few times. They're pretty good.

Do you have/use other burning apps? Is the problem only with Nero? Have you ever burned with it? Does Windows recognize it? Will it read/play CDs? Is the burner new? You didn't mentiion which brand you have. There are a million different factors to consider, all of which you know and I don't.

Flashing the bios of your burner is usually a good place to start. Do you know about master/slave jumper settings?

If you have ASPI layer drivers v4.60 installed, your problem is  not ASPI.

Hi Sufferin' succotash,

I'm using Nero, and I never asked for their help since I'm currently using the tryout. I did use my CD burner to burn CDs before. Windows ME did recognize it before. My burner is a Ricoh MP8040SE. I also tried NTI, and the problem is that my CD burner can't be found. I did check Nero's support page, but it didn't help me much.

If it had nothing to do with Win-ASPI file, why did the message "Win-ASPI file can't be found" still pop up after installing the Win-ASPI 4.6?

I don't know about master/slave jumper settings.

I still have no idea what I can do. I tried those two webpages you provided.

Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I think Nero installs it's own ASPI. Have you checked their 'download' page:

http://www.nero.com/en/download.htm

Scroll down to the bottom & you'll see:

wnaspi32.dll

latest Nero driver (for Windows NT/2000/XP)
please copy this file in the Nero folder.
this new version solves the problem in not finding any cd-drive
after the installation of Virtual CD.
    version: 2.0.1.45

Maybe that might help you.

I never had to d/l this file.

Nero will be glad to help you get the demo copy working .. cuz they want you to buy the thing.

If you don't want to use Nero sppt, maybe the boys at cdrom-guide forums could help:

http://www.cdrom-guide.com/forums/

or the freaks:
