editing software

Question about video editing software.  Some friends and I have been recording audio tracks using Cakewalk and are now building a new system to edit video.

I have been looking at Premiere and Vegas, Vegas 3.0 is getting great reviews. My question is, can you record audio using your soundcard directly into Premiere or Vegas into deifferent tracks for editing, or is it still a good idea to use a separate prorgram like Cakewalk.

Have not used Vegas Video, only older Vegas Audio (Vegas Pro it was called), but have yet to find a program that Sonic Foundry makes that I don't like (I like all their stuff).

Premiere sux for audio. Never used Cakewalk, but I imagine it will be much better than Ptremiere. Can't say about Vegas Video, cuz Sonic Foundry is a 'sound' company.

We use Avid Xpress DV & Premiere with RT2000 (real-time) for editing video.
