restoring image to different partition on same pc
May 12th, 2002 at 10:36am

I have 3 partitions on main harddrive.

C: win98 - 2GB
D: w2k - 6GB (.gho image = ~800megs)
E: storage 11GB

I want to put w2k on C: and install XP on D:

Can I restore the .gho image of w2k to the C: partition ???

Or do I need to fdisk and do clean install and start over..... Undecided

I guess it won't hurt to try it and find out....

if you installed all your apps to d drive, they think they are on d. if you restore to C:, they will become confused. I have tried this, and it is possible, but i ran into enuf frustrating problems that i wound up reinstalling the o/s.

it won't hurt to try.

one of the utilities that comes w/ patrtition magic is designed to change this.

i think the app is referenced in the fdisk guide

the image is a base install only.
w2k, IE upgraded to 6, and windowsupdate critical patches.
no apps installed.

I will give it a try this week and post my results here.
