Recently successfully created an image(uncompressed) of C: to a logical D:
I know it works because I have had need to use it but why is the image 443 megabytes whilst C: is 520 megabytes, does ghost do some compressing even when this is not specified?

According to "My Computer"
C: (primary) 512 megabytes used of total capacity 7.58Gb
D: (logical)  443  megabytes used of total capacity  1.9G

theonly thing on D: is an uncompressed ghost of C: which contains Win98, part of Lotus smartsuite and Roxio's Cd burning programs, and of course al the usual net access things.

There is a period there (.).

I misread you post and originally posted some crapola.

FAIK ghost should use the same size if no compression is used. Some programs like Norton keep deleted files buy don't register them with other places. I'm not sure how this works, but I know it's possible to have different size values. Maybe this is what's happening. Why don't you use compression? I don't know anyone who doesn't use compression.

I'll probably compress next time (in about a week) to see what happens,I didn't bother before because I'm very frugal with HD space and I can't see the total used going above what it is now.I don't tend to add much to the HD.(I had an ancient XT two PCs ago with a 20Mb HD,I thought then that this was a fantastic amount of room and in six years never filled more than 5Mb which shows how mean I am with HD space!)
I only asked this question out of idle curiosity, the ghosted image has been used several times since I had to format and reinstall and has been OK.Thanks for your replies.
