In case you ask the file is a picture of NGC300 (a galaxy)
from an observatory.

Sorry about that
When I click on the above link
the page comes without any delay to my monitor and I use IE55.
To download the 20MB file takes some time - the smallest
jpg on their list looks also looks fine .
But I want that biggy

They are using a
advanced 67-million pixel digital camera !
I have never seen so many details on such a pic.

The big question is: If you've got such a hot trotting camera resolution, why bother with a jpg? I mean, if the original image is in some sensible format that's fine but once it's going to a web jpg....

I think (not sure) cuz jpeg is a fairly universal format. Most everyone can view a jpeg with no problem. MY Canon G2 has the capability to take photos in lossless "Raw" format .. but not everyone can see these.

Had no problems viewing that in Mozilla
Try this for a RAM test
ftp
://visibleearth.nasa.gov/pub/EARTHVIZ/
filename: land_shallow_topo_east.tif
400MB
Be adviced that is a government server, keylogging, monitoring, auditing ect. Strong warnings, threats of prosecution ect. However that is a public FTP, never the less I thought it prudent not to link directly
Rad, how you like that G2? Ive heard RAW format is mighty useful (in Photoshop) my E20N supports it, but I havent experimented with it much.

I love the G2. But to be honest, I have nothing to compare it with. It's my only digicam.
RAW is lossless. It offers 3 jpeg modes. normal, fine & superfine. Superfine is is very nice.
I can easily recommend the G2.
