i've never overwritten an image, but i expected it would. usually u ssimply *delete* the one u don't want [for example: C_23oct.gho] and create a new one [C_24oct.gho].

Hi again,
Please look over my plan below . . .
now I have installed my work apps and want to make another image and i will burn these spans this time so I even have yet another back up source.
so now I have master C: with my win2k,and basic apps, dsl drivers so on. . .
and
slave D: this has 3 partitions 32, 32, 12 GB I have
set as D,F,G
- I have D as my drive for what ever and (I put a game on it to help ease my stress )
- F has my IMAGES
(right now just has 1 image of C: right after I installed OS and DSL)
- G has some data I need to keep like source files and PSD files for work from my old drive.
I plan to organize this G drive data and burn a backup
then I am going to make an image of the C: as it is now and put it in F drive with other small image.
then burn copies of the spans(it's 3.6gig now)
I will buy a new very small drive to move the first image (750mb) to I wish I would have made it span so I could burn it. But I didnt know I was wanting to do what I am telling.
then I will have CD back up of my old DATA and my C: image right after OS install and an image of it after apps install.
then I will write over D: F,G with a disk to disk clone of C:
and use it for my biweekly back ups
is this OK or do you see a pitfall?

ur doing great.
good idea to create new images as you proceed.
sometimes u find that something you install (drives, programs, etc) screws up your system or generates stabilitry problems. but sometimes u don't realize this until u use the system for a few days.
i like to create a few images as i install new shit. this way i can go back in incremental steps if i discover that something is not right with my system. don't have to go all the way back to square one.
if you use your system for a week or two with no problems, it's usually safe to delete old images.
load games to d, not c.

So I am not setting my self up for a fall if I
move the 2 images to CD and then reformate the D: so I can make a disk to disk CLONE that stays on D: then I will only have a CD with images and a Clone drive of the OS and all Apps. that I re-clone biweekly this is ok you say ? plz re-affirm ???
If I make a Clone disk to disk I must make sure not to let windos C: see it right? I thought I remembered that . .

don't clone:
http://ghost.radified.com/screens/ghost_2002_partition_clone.gif
(this wastes space & can cause trouble)
you want to create an *image*:

http://ghost.radified.com/ghost_2.htm
make sure your images are smaller than 650 MB b4 burning.

disk is for the whole physical hard drive.
partition is just for the partition (duh)
if you only have 1 partition on the hard drive, it shouldn't matter since partition = disk.
