Ghost and new SATA Drives
Aug 8th, 2004 at 12:09pm

I'm finally planning out a new system to build in December.  I'm researching the new SATA hard drives and wondered if anyone had any experience Ghosting these; both backup and restore?

I'm just starting to research all of the hardware that I'm considering and am surprised at low little there is on SATA drives.  I guess until Intel came out with their new Intel 875P MCH and ICH5R chipsets, you actually had to use specially loaded drivers for SATA.

Appreciate any replies!  Thanks!

I ghost a seagate pata drive to a seagate sata drive and vice versa. the pata is 120GB. the sata is 160GB. NO problems. My friends has two 74GB WD Raptors and Ghost works fine with them too. I've heard you need the most recent live update for sata drives.

Hey Rad,

Haven't settled on it yet.  I like to make these projects a hobby so I start researching months ahead.  It's interesting and entertaining when your time frame is a few months out.  Lots to learn since CUSL2 which I love and is rock solid with WinXP SP2 and my hundreds of tweaks and dozens of programs.

I still don't know why I'm building another system except it will be four years since my last one and I love to have a good project during my two weeks off at Xmas.  I just grow too attached to good systems that run everything i want.

Anyway, here are my musings so far.  Long way to go.  Sorry for the formatting.  I just keep adding my ideas to a .txt file that I pasted:
