Restore from Spanned Backup revised
Sep 16th, 2004 at 4:47pm

I copied all 12 cd's from a full system backup to a single folder on my harddrive. Ghost tech said not to do this, so I
know I don't have a prayer of getting formal support. Anyway
I started up Image Browser, pointed to the "backup" folder,
and dbl clicked the first file. The browser told me I had 12 spans (actually I have 12 cd's with a total of 30 spans) , which would entail alot of disk swaping, yada yada. I said ok, and a new window popped up called "Ghost Explorer". It eventually built a directory structure of the backed up files...Yipee! BUT IN THE WRONG WINDOW!!! Image Browser has all the restore commands in it's FILE pull down menu...but they are greyed out because all the files are displayed in Ghost Explorer. Anyway, I tried doing a copy & paste from Ghost Explorer to my Windows Explorer. It worked!!

So bottom line, you can restore files from a Ghost Image (version 9) but not the way the doc says to. Ill keep Ghost (already paid for) strictly for image capability.
I'll use WIN XP Pro native backup for my daily incrementals.

To everyone who offered advice..thank you.

John
